TV DIY - Write Your Own Episode
Facilitator: Kate Loveless
Learn about TV writing and script structure by creating your very own episode of a popular sitcom in a writers’ room made up of your fellow students. This workshop will take place in 2 sessions over a 1 week period — during the first meeting we will come up with an episode idea, break story as a group, and assign individual scenes to be written by the following week, and during the second meeting we will compile the scenes and read the full episode together. NOTE: workshop will require some knowledge of the show Schitt’s Creek (stream it on Hulu, Amazon, Apple TV, Freevee, & Vudu before workshop begins).
Kate Loveless attended the University of Southern California where she majored in Narrative Studies and minored in American Popular Culture and Cinema. During her time at USC, Kate also began performing and producing standup and improv comedy in Los Angeles as well as working various internships in the entertainment industry. After graduating in 2014, Kate leveraged her role as a set PA on a film set into an assistant position in television and worked her way up in the writers' room until 2020 when she received her first WGA "written by" credit. She has continued working as a freelance writer and producer since then.
